There are many advantages to using a li-ion cell battery. As a result, the technology is being used increasingly for a huge number of widely varying applications. Everything from small electronic devices, through smartphones and laptops to vehicles and many other applications.
The advantages of Li-ion technology mean that these batteries are finding an increasing number of applications, and as a result, a huge amount of development is being invested in them.
The Li-ion battery advantages include:
  • High energy density: High energy density is one of the chief advantages of lithium-ion battery technology. With electronic equipment such as mobile phones needing to operate longer between charges while still consuming more power, there is always a need for batteries with a much higher energy density. In addition to this, there are many power applications from power tools to electric vehicles. The much higher power density offered by lithium-ion batteries is a distinct advantage. Electric vehicles also need battery technology that has a high energy density.
  • Self-discharge:   One issue with many rechargeable batteries is the self-discharge rate. Lithium-ion cells are that their rate of self-discharge is much lower than that of other rechargeable cells such as Ni-Cad and NiMH forms. It is typically around 5% in the first 4 hours after being charged but then falls to a figure of around 1 or 2% per month.
  • Low maintenance:   One major lithium-ion battery advantage is that does not require maintenance to ensure its performance.
Ni-Cad cells required a periodic discharge to ensure that they did not exhibit the memory effect. As this does not affect lithium-ion cells, this process or other similar maintenance procedures are not required. Likewise lead acid cells to require maintenance, some needing the battery acid to be topped up periodically.

High Performance

  • High energy density: more energy less weight.
  • High charge currents (Shortens the charge period – essential for a proper solar power system).
  • High discharge currents (Enabling for example electrical cooking on a small battery bank).
  • Long battery life (up to six times the battery life of a lead acid battery).
  • High efficiency between charging and discharging (Very little energy loss due to heat development).
  • Higher continuous power is available.

Rugged

  • A lead acid battery can fail prematurely due to sulfating if it is left partially charged, fully discharged, or rarely fully charged for long periods of time. A Lithium Iron Phosphate battery does not need to be kept fully charged and has a wide operating temperature range and excellent cycling performance. They are therefore THE battery for very demanding applications.

Efficient

  • The typical “round trip” energy efficiency (energy that can be taken out of the battery compared to the energy required to recharge) for lead acid batteries is ~ 70%. For a LiFePO4 battery, it is >96%. The Final C20% charge for a lead acid battery is particularly inefficient with inefficiencies of ~ 50% and can take a very long time for the battery to become completely charged. In contrast, a LiFePO4 battery will always achieve 96% efficiency and so can be fully charged more quickly while wasting less energy.

Size & Weight

  • LiFePO4 batteries save up to 70% in space and 70% in weight compared to lead acid.

Battery Management System

  • It is vital that an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) is used to control the battery charging. This is important to actively balance the individual cells that make up the battery and prevent under or voltage which can otherwise destroy the battery. It is also important for the battery to be able to communicate with the rest of the system.

Delivery Information

Enerlux manages deliveries through a combination of our own private delivery drivers and trusted national logistics partners, including companies such as The Courier Guy. The delivery method is selected based on the size, weight, and scope of the order, as well as the delivery location. All deliveries are initiated once an order has been placed, payment has been confirmed, and the order has been processed. Orders are carefully prepared, packaged, and scheduled to ensure safe handling of all electrical, solar, and energy equipment.

Delivery timelines typically range between 1 to 5 business days, depending on:

  • The size and complexity of the order
  • The selected courier or delivery method
  • Courier schedules and regional routing
  • The delivery destination

For larger, bulk, or specialised equipment orders, Enerlux may allocate dedicated delivery vehicles or adjusted logistics schedules to ensure safe transport.

Customers will be notified once dispatch has taken place, and tracking details will be provided where applicable.

Please note: Delivery timelines are estimates and may be affected by courier availability, public holidays, or unforeseen logistical delays.
