Pylontech UP5000 4.8kWh 48V LiFePO₄ Rack-Mount Solar Battery
The Pylontech UP5000 is a low-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery developed for residential and small commercial solar energy storage applications where reliability, scalability, and long service life are required. Designed as a rack-mount energy storage module, the UP5000 integrates seamlessly into structured battery cabinets and technical installations.
Unlike wall-mount batteries intended primarily for single-unit installations, the UP5000 is engineered for modular system expansion and organised battery stacking within a 19-inch rack environment.
System Role and Typical Applications
The UP5000 stores energy generated by solar PV systems and supplies power during grid outages, load shedding, or off-grid operation. It is commonly deployed in residential backup systems, off-grid solar installations, and structured battery rooms where multiple battery modules are combined into a single energy storage system.
This is a low-voltage battery designed for 48V-class hybrid and inverter-charger platforms.
48V Low-Voltage Battery Architecture
Operating at a nominal voltage of 48V, the UP5000 fits within the widely adopted low-voltage lithium category used by most residential hybrid inverters. This voltage range allows safe installation, efficient energy transfer, and broad inverter compatibility without the complexity of high-voltage battery systems.
LiFePO₄ Chemistry and Long Cycle Life
The UP5000 uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) cell chemistry, selected for its thermal stability, chemical safety, and extended cycle life. The battery supports a depth of discharge of up to 95%, providing a usable energy capacity of approximately 4.56kWh per module.
The system is rated for more than 6000 cycles at 25°C, making it suitable for daily cycling in demanding energy storage environments.
Smart BMS and Cell Protection
An integrated Battery Management System continuously monitors cell voltage, current, temperature, state of charge, and system health. Protection functions include over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit, and temperature protection.
The BMS ensures balanced cell operation and long-term reliability while supporting safe parallel operation of multiple battery modules.
Parallel Expansion and System Scalability
The Pylontech UP5000 supports parallel connection of up to 16 battery modules in a single system. This allows total system capacity to scale from a single 4.8kWh battery to over 76kWh without replacing existing units.
This modular approach makes the UP5000 suitable for systems that are expected to grow over time.
Rack-Mount Installation and Physical Design
The UP5000 is designed for installation in a standard 19-inch rack cabinet. The compact enclosure allows efficient use of vertical space while maintaining proper airflow and cable management.
This structured installation approach is ideal for plant rooms, inverter rooms, and dedicated battery enclosures.
