Pylontech UF5000 5.12kWh 51.2V LiFePO₄ Rack-Mount Solar Battery

The Pylontech UF5000 is a low-voltage lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery developed for structured residential and commercial solar energy systems where safety, scalability, and long service life are essential. Designed in a standard 19-inch rack-mount format, the UF5000 integrates seamlessly into organised battery cabinets and technical energy storage rooms.

Unlike wall-mounted batteries that are typically limited to small system sizes, the UF5000 is engineered for modular expansion and long-term system growth, making it suitable for both single-home backup systems and larger multi-battery energy storage installations.

Pylontech UF5000 System Role and Applications

The UF5000 stores energy generated by solar PV systems and supplies power during grid outages, load shedding, or off-grid operation. It is commonly deployed in hybrid inverter systems, inverter-charger installations, and structured energy storage solutions where predictable performance and system communication are required.

This battery is a low-voltage solution designed for 48V-class inverter platforms.

51.2V Low-Voltage Battery Architecture

Operating at a nominal voltage of 51.2V, the UF5000 aligns with industry-standard low-voltage lithium systems. This voltage range is widely supported by residential and commercial hybrid inverters and inverter-chargers, simplifying system integration and inverter compatibility.

The battery delivers a total nominal energy capacity of 5.12kWh, with a usable energy capacity of approximately 4.86kWh at 95% depth of discharge.

LiFePO₄ Cell Chemistry and Safety

The UF5000 is built using lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) cell technology. This chemistry is selected for its high thermal stability, non-cobalt composition, and strong resistance to thermal runaway. These characteristics make it particularly suitable for indoor energy storage applications where long-term safety is critical.

LiFePO₄ cells also provide consistent voltage behaviour under load, supporting stable inverter operation during high demand periods.

Cycle Life and Daily Operation

The battery is rated for more than 6000 cycles at standard operating conditions, enabling reliable daily charge and discharge use over many years. This makes the UF5000 suitable for systems that cycle frequently due to load shedding, time-of-use optimisation, or off-grid operation.

Integrated BMS and Communication

An integrated Battery Management System continuously monitors cell voltage, current, temperature, state of charge, and state of health. The BMS provides comprehensive protection against over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, and short-circuit conditions.

Communication with compatible inverters is achieved via CAN bus or RS485, allowing coordinated charge and discharge control, improved efficiency, and extended battery lifespan.

Parallel Expansion and System Scalability

The UF5000 supports parallel connection of up to 20 battery modules within a single system. This allows total storage capacity to scale from 5.12kWh up to 102.4kWh, depending on inverter capacity and system design.

This modular approach enables future system expansion without replacing existing batteries.

Rack-Mount Design and Installation

The battery is designed for installation in standard 19-inch rack cabinets. Its compact rack-mount form factor allows for clean cable routing, structured airflow, and simplified maintenance access.

The enclosure is rated to IP20 and intended for indoor installation in a controlled environment such as a battery room, utility space, or equipment cabinet.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About the Pylontech UF5000 Battery

What type of system is the UF5000 designed for?

The UF5000 is designed for structured low-voltage solar energy storage systems that use rack-mounted batteries. It is ideal for hybrid inverter systems, inverter-chargers, and expandable battery banks.

How is the UF5000 different from the US3000 and UP5000?

The UF5000 is specifically designed as a rack-mounted ESS battery with higher scalability and structured installation. While the US and UP series are commonly used in residential setups, the UF5000 is better suited to larger battery banks and organised battery rooms.

Is the UF5000 suitable for daily cycling?

Yes. The battery is rated for more than 6000 cycles and is designed for daily charge and discharge operation, including load shedding and time-of-use optimisation.

Can the UF5000 be expanded later?

Yes. Up to 20 UF5000 batteries can be connected in parallel, allowing the system to grow as energy demands increase.

Does this battery require CAN bus communication?

CAN bus communication is strongly recommended as it allows the inverter to manage charging and discharging accurately, improving performance and extending battery lifespan.

Can this battery be used off-grid?

Yes, provided the inverter supports lithium batteries and is configured correctly for off-grid operation.

Where should the UF5000 be installed?

The battery should be installed indoors in a dry, ventilated environment such as a battery cabinet or technical room.

Who should install this battery?

Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrical or solar professional familiar with lithium battery systems and inverter communication protocols.
